Studies have suggested that 10% or higher of emergency responders (that is Police, Fire, Paramedics) as well as teachers suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Most recently the Province of Manitoba recognizes PTSD as a work-related illness effective Jan 1st 2016 and this is the first time that the Workers Compensation Board in Canada includes it as an occupational disease.

Northwest Law Enforcement Academy is pleased to be hosting Clinical Psychologist Dr. Doug Tataryn who is conducting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Workshops for awareness and healing purposes. Dr. Tataryn received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 1991 from the University of Arizona and now works full time in private practice where he works in research, sports psychology, performance enhancement and life coaching.

Dr. Tataryn identifies the diagnostic criteria for PTSD and impediments to treatment such as social stigma and societal perceptions. He speaks to feelings versus emotions, various treatment methods and five practical steps for healing.
